Split-disk test with 3D Digital Image Correlation strain measurement for filament wound composites

نویسندگان

چکیده

The paper investigates the split-disk test methodology for measuring mechanical properties of a filament wound composite. Hoop strain is measured by three-dimensional (3D) Digital Image Correlation (DIC) on outer surface ring specimens. A finite element model (FEM) employed to investigate distribution along circumference and thickness effect friction between disk. FE simulation shows that disk significant, but precise quantification difficult because irregularities ring/disk contact. Both DIC map show low area at level split, caused local bending ring. In conclusion this work, authors recommend: (1) measure strain, which used in stiffness calculation with 10° offset from where influence becomes insignificant, (2) use 3D hoop measurement, concurrent FEM estimate errors related difference strains average over entire thickness.

Digital image correlation techniques for strain measurement in a variety of biomechanical test models.

PURPOSE Previous biomechanical studies have estimated the strains of bone and bone substitutes using strain gages. However, applying strain gages to biological samples can be difficult, and data collection is limited to a small area under the strain gage. The purpose of this study was to compare digital image correlation (DIC) strain measurements to those obtained from strain gages in order to ...

Processing Digital Image for Measurement of Crack Dimensions in Concrete

The elements of the concrete structure are most frequently affected by cracking. Crack detection is essential to ensure safety and performance during its service life. Cracks do not have a regular shape, in order to achieve the exact dimensions of the crack; the general mathematical formulae are by no means applicable. The authors have proposed a new method which aims to measure the crack dimen...

Digital Image Correlation combined with Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometery for 3D Deformation Measurement in Small Samples

The small size of mesoand microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices presents several challenges for full-field deformation measurements. A hybrid system combining Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for in-plane deformation and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) for out-of-plane deformation measurements has been developed for working with these small size scales. Measurement of th...

Investigation of optimal digital image correlation patterns for deformation measurement

Digital image correlation (DIC) relies on the visible surface features of a specimen to measure deformation. When the specimen itself has little to no visible features, a pattern is applied to the surface which deforms with the specimen and acts as artificial surface features. Since recent pattern application methods, e.g., micro-stamping [1] and lithography [2] allow for the application of hig...

Crack Monitoring and Strain Measurement in Asphalt Mixture by Digital Image Correlation

A full field method for the description of in-plane strain fields is applied for improving Asphalt Mixture cracking behaviour insights. A Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system based on the Least Square Matching technique is used to compute strains and depict crack path in the process from microcrack initiation to failure. A Brazilian test was performed using hole-notched specimens. The test ge...
